This week, on the Construction Record podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey chats with John Wall, an architect from Public: Architecture + Communication about Vienna House, a collaborative project that takes advantage of cultural exchanges between the city. of Vancouver and the city of Vienna to build sustainable construction projects.
Vienna House is in the planning stages but will emphasize both aesthetics and affordability in a low environmental footprint social housing project. Wall said passive house standards not only contribute to energy efficiency, but also resilience while reducing the complexity of the structure.
Wall said the European approach to construction is pragmatic and increasingly modular, and Vancouver can adapt these ideas to local projects. He added that Europe is more advanced in terms of social housing and the use of engineered wood, while the study of Vancouver’s regulatory and logistical approach could be useful.
