Master of Architectural Science students tackle decarbonization in new pilot program

Master’s student Ella Xuemin Zhou

Ella Xuemin Zhou was Turner’s partner during the program. With this experience under her belt, Ella has gained a more holistic understanding of the challenge of decarbonization and is better prepared to tackle complex challenges outside of the classroom.

“In a real project, we have to think more carefully about the accuracy of the result. We also had to take into account the importance of efficiency gains in time, energy and budget, ”she said.

“Participating in the program helped me understand the current state of the industry and future design trends. “

The collaboration with Architects Declare Australia was led by Dr Daniel Ryan, director of the Master in Architectural Sciences program.

“Climate change is such an urgent problem and the construction industry needs to change quickly,” he says.

“It’s great to see our students playing a leading role in this transition.”

The participating students and architectural firms included:

Shilei Chen – Architect
Camille Gaven – Scott Carver
Barbara Silva Messer – HDR
Natalia Saavedra Toro – Fitzpatrick + Partners
Ella Xuemin Zhou – Turner
