A three-storey building collapsed in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. The building collapsed like a house of cards in the Chopal market district around 12:30 p.m., a state disaster management official said.
The official added that no lives were lost when the building collapsed. A branch of UCO Bank, a dhaba, a bar and a few other commercial establishments were in the building.
“Being the second Saturday, there was a public holiday in the bank on the top floor of the building and none of the seven employees working in the bank were present at the time of the incident,” said Ramesh Dadhwal, manager General of UCO Bank. Zone branch in Shimla.
“According to information provided to me by one of the staff stationed there, men sitting in the downstairs bar noticed sudden cracks in the window panes,” he said. further said, adding that realizing the danger, they immediately ran out of the building and alerted other people sitting in the bar and dhaba.
